Mixed Bag

Today Bhutan is considered as one of the best tourist destinations of South-East Asia. Eco/Adventure

There are more than dozen trekking routes in Bhutan. Tourists can either choose the short and beautiful Druk Path trek or the arduous Snowman trek. Treks here are usually short three-day ones (low altitude) or three-week treks that can cover up to 356 kms. One of the most rewarding treks is the Royal Heritage Trek from Bumthang to Trongsa Dzongkhags. Tourists can get a glimpse of Bhutan’s history dating back to the early 1950s. Tourists interested in knowing about Bhutan royal family history or its traditional life can embark on the Royal Heritage Tour.

Day hikes can be either short one/two hours walk or a strenuous day long hike. Tourists can discover small chortens, little monasteries, beautiful lakes and gorges or picturesque Bhutanese villages.

Then there is also bicycling, rock climbing, golf at the royal Thimpu golf course and fishing in beautiful trout streams or crystal clear rivers.

River Cruise

Bhutan also offers a variety of rafting and kayaking opportunities. For beginners there are short and easy rafting and for the experienced there are thrilling adventures on just the right river. There are also white water expeditions organized by local tourist agents.

Quick Ones

Tourists who are short of time should make it a point to see less places, but more of the country. Driving and running around should be kept to a minimum.

  • Tourists can get the taste of Bhutan by trekking around the Bumthang valley, walking from Thimphu to Paro or trekking to the base of Mount Jhomolhari. All along the way they would be mesmerized by the spectacular views, picturesque villages and Bhutanese people.
  • The Royal Heritage Trek from Bumthang to Trongsa Dzongkhags can be a great option. Tourists can get a glimpse of Bhutan’s history dating back to the early 1950s. They can see the Wangdicholing Palace (royal summer residence) in Bumthang and the Kuenga Rabten Palace (royal winter retreat) in Trongsa. Tourists can witness an abundance of flora and fauna including over 40 species of birds like Yellow and Black Billed Magpies and the Spotted Nut Cracker along this trail.
  • Tourists availing the Royal Heritage Tour will be taken to all the important places, palaces, Dzongs and other areas like Punakha, Trongsa, Bumthang, Mongar and Lhuentse which has a connection with the royal family.
